The NUM concludes five-year wage settlement at Gold Fields’ South Deep mine


The Nationwide Union of Mineworkers (NUM), the bulk union at Gold Fields’ South Deep mine, has concluded a five-year wage settlement for workers on the mine.

The multiyear settlement, negotiated in collaboration with UASA, is efficient from March 1, this 12 months, to February 28, 2031.

It covers workers in classes 4 to eight, in addition to miners, artisans and officers.

For the primary 12 months, the class 4 to eight minimal entry-level primary wage will increase to

R18 663 a month (underground) and R16 233 a month (floor).

The remaining workers on this class obtain a ten% enhance.

Miners, artisans and officers obtain a 6.2% enhance.

Within the second 12 months, the class 4 to eight entry-level primary wage rises to R20 006 a month (underground) and R17 401 a month (floor), with a 7.2% enhance for remaining workers.

Miners, artisans and officers obtain a 6% enhance.

Within the third 12 months, the class 4 to eight entry-level primary wage will increase to R21 426 a month (underground) and R18 637 a month (floor), with a 7.1% enhance for different workers.

Miners, artisans and officers obtain a 6% enhance.

Within the fourth 12 months, the class 4 to eight entry-level primary wage will increase to R22 927 a month (underground) and R19 942 a month (floor), with a 7% enhance for remaining workers.

Miners, artisans and officers obtain a 6% enhance.

Within the fifth 12 months, the class 4 to eight entry-level primary wage rises to R24 532 a month (underground) and R21 338 a month (floor), with a 7% enhance for remaining workers.

Miners, artisans and officers obtain a 6% enhance.

Changes may even be utilized to the housing allowance, medical incapacity and funeral profit.

In recognition of the well timed conclusion of negotiations, Gold Fields has accepted a discretionary, one-off money incentive of R50 000 for everlasting and fixed-term workers with not less than 12 months of steady service; and R10 000 for non-permanent workers on lively or residual learnerships, experiential studying and associated programmes with not less than six months of steady service.

The NUM recommended its members for the self-discipline and maturity all through the negotiation course of.
