Boshoek and Wonderkop smelters to be restarted after Glencore Merafe and Eskom finalise 62c/kWh phrases


The Glencore Merafe Chrome Enterprise has introduced that the Boshoek and Wonderkop ferrochrome smelters can be restarted, following the conclusion of the detailed phrases and circumstances of negotiated pricing agreements (NPAs) with Eskom.

The NPAs, Glencore Marafe mentioned, gave full impact to the 62c/kWh tariff, which had been accepted by the Nationwide Vitality Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) for each the enterprise and for Samacor Chrome.

Nersa accepted the amended NPAs for Glencore Merafe and Samancor Chrome on Might 29, after public hearings into Eskom’s functions on Might 25.

Eskom confirmed throughout these hearings that it will not make a revenue from the sale of electrical energy to the 2 ferrochrome producers at a tariff of 62c/kWh.
